FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Betsy Sales for Wal-Mart (312) 943-1955 (YORKVILLE, IL)— Mayor Arthur F. Prochaska, Jr., Lynn Dubajic, Executive Director of the Yorkville Economic Development Corporation and Roderick Scott, Mid-West Manager of Community Affairs for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., today announced plans for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Yorkville. The Supercenter will be located at US Route 34 and Countryside Parkway, nearby the new US Post Office, which is currently under construction. “Kendall County is one of the fasting growing counties in the United States, and as the County Seat we have been working hard to create new economic opportunities that will benefit Yorkville residents and make our City and County an even better place to visit, live and work,” said Mayor Prochaska. “Our Economic Development Corporation is diligently working to make Yorkville a shopping hub and business district for the entire region; and today’s announcement takes us one more giant step in that direction.” The store is planned to include almost 203,000 square feet of retail space and will offer customers nearly 100,000 products, combining full grocery lines and general merchandise under one roof at Wal-Mart’s signature Every Day Low Prices. Provided all permits are secured in a timely manner, it is anticipated that construction will begin in the spring of 2006 and the opening will occur in spring or summer of 2007. The overall site is approximately 29 acres in size and includes 5 outlots. Once opened, the store’s workforce is estimated to be 350 - 450 jobs, almost three-fourth’s of which would be fulltime. The Supercenter will create estimated annual sales tax revenues of approximately $400,000 for the City of Yorkville and property tax revenues of over $300,000. “Yorkville could not be happier to welcome this new Wal-Mart Supercenter as it will not only create new jobs and provide significant new tax revenues for our City, but we know it will act as a catalyst to attract other businesses,” said Lynn Dubajic. “We believe Wal-Mart will be a great partner for the community. ”The new Supercenter will feature 36 general merchandise departments, an expanded lawn and garden center, a full line of electronics, a large health and beauty aids department, and a pharmacy. In addition, the grocery area features a bakery, delicatessen, frozen food department, meat department, fresh produce section, and a dairy department. In addition, the new Supercenter will be home to many specialty shops including a vision center, Tire & Lube Express, one-hour photo center, hair salon, local bank branch, and a fast food restaurant.
